DANNEVIRKE, January 21.
John Rigby, 45 years of age, after being missing for some days, turned up at his residence and hanged himself. He arrived from the South Island six months ago. An inquest was held, and a verdict was returned that death was duo 'to hanging, there being no evidence to show that lie was mentally deficient.
A miner named William Downes met with an accidcnt in the Blackball coal mine last week, which terminated fatally, lie was badly crushed in the back and chest, and had a leg broken, the result of a fall of coal. The deceased, who had been a resident of tho dominion for the past three years, leaves a family of two—a boy of seveii and a girl of two years.
