OTAGO EDUCATION BOARD.
A meeting of the Otago Education Board was held last evening; present—Messrs Fleming (chairman), Wilkinson, Todd, Livingstone, Borne, Brugh, Wallace, Smith,, arid Horn. An application by the Rarensboume Committee for. permission to instal electee light in the school gymnasium was* approved, subject to the approval of the architect The appointment of Mr D. Dewar to convoy the Merton children to and from school was approved. ' Mr Livingstone moved that Hie board extend the Elderslie School by Bft, in accordance with the architects approval.—Mr Smith seconded the motion, which -was carThe Education Department notified 'the board that the first instalment of the war bonus for teachers wae now payable. Teachers under 18 years would receiYe £3, but if any of these teachers were living away from home their war bonus would bo £7. The total payments under this head were £3299 Os Id.—Received.' An application, by Mr Muir, lessee of section 35, block 11, comprising 8 aoree 32 poles, for permission to transfer his leaeo to Mr A. J. James was approved. The Education Department forwarded an t extract from "The War Legislation Act, 1917," to the effect that no teacher shall retire on suoPTannuation without the con- . sent of the Miniser dnrine the currency of £ho war. The next mretimsr of the board was fixed for December 12 and 13. The architect was instructed to furnish & report on the condition of the Kartigi School building in time for next; meeting.
