WORKERS' EDUCATIONAL ASSOCIATION.
Over 40 keenly interested students attend the weekly lectures on " Modern Problems," delivered by tho Ven. Archdeacon Woodthorpe, under the auspices of the Workers' Educational Association. Among the subjects dealt with have been " The Evolution of Capitalism," "The Causes of Industrial Unrest," "The Replacement of Men by Women in Industry," " Tho Effect of tho War on Credit, Currency, and Banking," " War Finance and Taxation," " Economic and Industrial Problems to be Faced at tho Close of the War," and " The Reorganisation and Control of Industry After the War." The second section of the programme, embracing !the above and other highly interesting and topical subjects, was brought to a closo, this week. The lecturer has gone to great pains in preparation for his work, and tho students (men from many trades and callings, also some women) havo reaped the benefit of his wide knowledge. At the closo of each lecture a hearty discussion has taken place, and evidence is thus given of the soundness of tho knowledge imparted. Some of the most important subjects of the series are to follow. Among these are " The History, Theory, and Functions of ithe State," " Socialism and Syndicalism,'' V Education in the Modern State," and "The Destinies of Democracy and tho Future of Civilisation." The mere enumeration of the titles reveals tho high status of the studies undertaken by ■ tho Workers' Association. In these classes opportunities aro being set beforo the working men and women of today such as never existed in the past.
