SUBURBAN TRAINS

WELLINGTON, August D'urinp the debate on the first item on the Estimates to-night several members made reference to the curtailment of tho suburban train services. Tho Minister said he -would be very glad to restore all_ the suburban trains and all tho other trains if railwavmen were not required for the front and "if sufficient coal were guaranteed, but he would not restore ono train without restoring all the trains. Mr Parr: Are not men leaving tho railwav service? Mr Herries: I am sorry to say they are That is b-canso we do not pay high enough wages; The Minister went on to say that if tho strike in Australia oontrrmod it mightbe necessary fus-ther to reduce the services. If tho strike continued for a month or two months the position would be serious.
