TAIERI COUNTY COUNCIL.
Tho Engineer reports as follows for tho month of August:—
Satisfactory progress haa been mado with, all metal and gravel contracts. Three are' completed, and three are still in progress. Arrangements were made with RutUvon. Bros, to supply and deliver gravel for the Janefiold road, and this work is completed. Tenders are called for the delivery of metal on the Henley-Borwiok and OutramBerwick roads and on the riding roads of East Taieri. The output from the Mosgiel quarry haa been 639 yards. It was necessary to draw on Logan's Point foir the Middlemarch contract. The works carried out by day labour include the surfacing of Long Ridge : road, North Taieri, the removal of sludge from the Riverside road, and the clearing of willows from tho Silverstream, East Taieri, tho surfacing of the Kaikorai Valley road, the scraping of tho Main South road, and clearing blocked culverts at Henley and metal repairs on old Brighton road, Otokia Riding, gravel re9 alrs . to Woodside streets, repair of water opening at Johnston ee, find filling in ruts on metal roads, Maungatua Riding, the repair of washouts on Sutton faces and Lamb Hill road, Deep Stream Riding, the repairs of washouts on top road, the widening of suspension bridge road, and insertion of culvert on back road at Gladbrook, Strath Taien Riding. Tho chairman and engineer have two men employed cleaning up the Btveota of Mossburn township, and will attend to metal .repairs when material is available. Cc Blair and tho engineer recommend that 100 yards of metal bo run out on the West Taieri loan roads". There is no record of the roadlino to Mr John A. Bruce s property having been closed. Cr Matheson and the engineer have arranged with Sutton farmers to cart the gravel for Egan s and other Sutton roads at oonnty rates. Surfaceman Kearney (Deep Stroam Riding) has resigned, but I am awaiting the development of negotiations regarding Lee Stream School before filling his place lhcre are no fewer than 60 instructions outstanding of works U, bo done, and it will take me all this year to carry them out.
