CHRISTCHURCH MARKETS. (Peb United Pbess Association.) # CHRISTCHURCH August 21. There is nothing doing in wheat. The oats market is firmer, and prices 1 tbow some improvement. Oats are not only V scarce, but there are no prospects at present : of obtaining further supplies from Australia.
There ia a good demand for oatsheaf ohaff for the North Island, where, owing to tno amount of rain, it is required for feed purposes. Prime ohaff is now worth £4 5s to £4 10s at country stations. • There has been a larger amount of business done in potatoes lately with the Auckland market, Dut there is not a large quantity offering by growers. They are now worth £2 10s to £2 12s 6d at country stations. During the last few days/ since it was announced that the Australian boats would run on the coast, the Auckland merchants have not beeb so ready to make further purohaaes, evidently expecting thai shipments will be heavy while the Freight is available. The demand for seed potatoes has fallen off, and they ore now practically unsaleable for shipment. Large quantities have gone to Auckland and other North Island merchants, but owing to continued wet weather growers have been unable to do any planting.
