POLITICAL CRISIS IN AUSTRIA
PREMIER RESIGNS. CAUSE OF THE DISPUTE. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. LONDON, August 20. (Received August 20, at 10.10 p.m.) The Milan correspondent of the Daily Telegraph states that M. Esterhazy has resigned the Hungarian Premiership. The Buda-Pestli newspapers announce that Count Andrassy has succeeded him. Though the crisis is ostensibly due to electoral reform, the dispute is Teally attributable to a vital difference on the question of peace or war. M. Esterhazy ■vainly tried to reconcile the views of M. Karolyi's and Count Tisza's sections. The latter demanded a vigorous prosecution of the war, while the former favoured an early peaoa .by compromise a rapprochment with England and internal democratisation. M. Esterhazy sought a third course by promising autonomy to the subject nationalities in the kingdom.
