PROPOSED NATIONAL INDUSTRY. DEPENDS UPON LABOUR UNIONS. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. MELBOURNE, June 23. Mr Cook has announced that if satisfactory arrangements can be made with labour unions the Government will give orders for the immediate construction of vessels and take steps to establish the industry in as many States as possible. The Government is awaiting the verdict of the unions.
