WAR ON MERCHANTMEN
NORWAY'S PLIGHT. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. CHRISTIANTA, April 20. (Received April 22, at 5.5 p.m.)' The torpedoings off the coast of Norway since the war amount to one-third of the mercantile fleet and have cost the lives of 300 sailors. The losses are now averaging two ships and five lives daily. The arming, of merchantmen is the only preventive, but this means war with Germany.
