ELECTRICITY IN AUCKLAND
PROFITABLE MUNICIPAL UNDERTAKING.

„ . AUCKLAND, March 14. Speaking at the opening of the olectricaJ sub-station at Epsom, tho Mayor stated that the capital expenditure on tho city electrical undertaking was £327,000. The income last year was £55,800, and after paying for work;ng expenses and capital charges, including interest, sinking fund, and depreciation— there was a profit of £11,000. The undertaking from the beginn:ng was seli-supnort-"ig. The council claimed to have* the cheapest and most econom cal steam plant in New Zealand, and claimed also to be selling power at rates ranking amongst the lowest in Australasia. The average price last year was 2 l-5d per unit, as against an average ■of 2fd in Christchurch, under a water-power scheme.
