Miss J. Pilling has been appointed solo teacher at tho iiauroo Hill School. Mr G. J. Anderson, MJP. for Jlaiaura, camo to Dunedin yesterday forenoon on public business, and returned to Goro by feho afternoon train.
Mrs jE. J. Lawton, of North Adelaide, accompanied by her daxighler, Miss Ada Lawton, of Western Australia, arrived from the north yesterday on a six months' torn of New Zealand. Mrs Lawton is staying with her brother-in-law. Sir James Macdonuld, of Maori Hill; At last night's mcetinjr of tho West Hor bour Borough Council motions -of condolenco were carried to Mrs Jackson, whoso husband had long: resided at St. Leonards and had died recently; also to tho relatives of Private David Leonard Smith, who had died at tho front from meningitis. It is understood that next month thf Governor and tho Countess of Liverpool \wll go into residence in Auckland, tho -syork of rlestoring and renovating Government House there, which has been going on since tho destnictivo firo in September, having ibean. completed.
