The hideous nature of the dealings exposed within the last few days threatened to p.ace Australia in the unenviable position of occupying a place superior to New York in Tammany tactics."
ANOTHER LIBEL ACTION. MELBOURNE, March 6. Senator.. Givens stated in the Senate that Senator Watson -will have an opportunity oi ventilating his charges in court. DOUBLE DISSOLUTION GRANTED. STATEMENT'BY MR HUGHES. MELBOURNE, March 6. (Received March 6, at 10.15 p.m.) The Governor-general has accepted Mr Hughes's advice to dissolve Parliament. Mr Hughes announced that the position now is that members of the House of Representatives and the Senators who should retire at«the end of June will proceed to the country forthwith. The Government intends to ask Parliament for the necessary Supply to make arrangements for taking soldiers' votes abroad and to deprive alien enemies of votes.
In the course of a lengthy statement Mr Hughes said the people of Australia demanded representation at the Imperial Conference. ,He could now disclose that the delegates had intended leaving that night.
