GOVERNMENT AND FBEE WOOL OFFERED. RECORD PRIQE FOR MERINO. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. Australian and NJL Cable Association. LONDON, March 5. Government wool offered comprised <56,0C0 bales. The Wool appraised but not offered totalled 10,000 bales. The free oilcrings totalled 52,000 bales. The Government reserved 17,500 bales, and requisitioned 10,000 bales. The trade bought 58,500 bales. There was a large attendance. The demand widened and strengthened as the saies progressed. Merinos touched. the Highest price on. record, and good combing lots generally advanced 5 per cent, above die January rates. Short faulty carbonising sorts advanced 10 per cent. Good tcoureds advanced 5 to 7£ per cent. Crossbreds were almost entirely withdrawn for Government contractors at prices not yet disclosed. Lambs' wool advanced 10 per cent.
