Waitahuua), appealed on tho ground that his calling up would be a case of hardship. For the last 16 months he had tried to sell tho farm at a cheap rate in order to enlist, but had been unable to do so. He was alone wo kthis farm of 818 acres. If he went away there was no one to leave in charge able to carry on the place properly. His calling up would be a hardship, not only to himself but also to his partner. Private J. Low, Tenth Reinforcements, now on active serV ' ce 'i_ 011 ditional exemption was granted' on the understanding that if his partner came back the appellant would be called upon. John Steel Blackie (occupier of leasehold farm, Waitahuna) asked for time. His father explained that he wanted his son's assistance to finish the harvest and to ict rid of his stock of implements. The board allowed time till March 6. James Roughan (farmer, Waitahuna West) appealed on tho ground of hardship. He said ho was the owner of 320 acres, and could get no assistance from his brothers, who occupied other farms in the district! Hi 3 brothers fyid as much as they could do to manage their own affairs. The case was adjourned sine die. The appeal of James Manning (of Glendlm Station, Lawrence), on the ground that ho was the only son left to support his parents, was dismissed. Adam M'Corkindale (of Manuka Creek) withdrew h : s appeal. John Walter fVozier (of Mount Stuart) said he was the only son on the farm. His parents were ncfed._ Appellant handed in a statement. Conditional exemption was granted, appellant to remain on the farm.
