Tho weather, which gave indications of clearing on Tuesday, broke again on Wednesday morning, and throughout tho day snow and hail showers were frequent. _ It Ins been showery since dawn this morning, but the glass has risen considerably, and tho conditions appear more settled. BALCLUTHA, August 24. The weather during tho past four days has been tho coldest experienced during tho present season. Tho conditions have varied from heavy rain showers to bitterly cold snow and sleet showers. A high and icycold wind has prevailed for throe days, and about 520 this morning a sharp thunderstorm passed over the town. Telegraphic communication was intermoted between Balclutha and Milton for some time on account of contact between the wires. DIPTONf, August 23. Tho rainfall registered here for the 24 hours ended 9.30 am. on Tuesday was 23 point.'-, and to-dav it was 60 points. Two irtchcs of snow fell on Tuesday.
