ZEPPELIN RAIDS.
THEIR FUTILITY ADMITTED. LONDON, August 4. The German authorities admit the failure of the last Zeppelin raids. A Berlin wireless message states that the Zeppelin raiders included two giants—the last words in air cruisers—of a type intended only to appear after the "war, and a Transatlantic link with America. They have a tremendous cruising radius, and! carrying and ascending capacity and speed. In returning from England one of thesd coverctl 237 miles in two hours, though helped by a favourable wind. AFTER-THE-WAR TRADE. AUSTRALIAN POLICY FAVOURED. LONDON, August 4. Tne Winchester Guardian states that it is believed in Freetrade circles that Mr Asquith's reference to fairly apportioning tho new economic policy to all classes of the community foreshadows the introduction of the Australian policy of combining a Customs tariff with high wages. Mackenzie delivered an address at Glasgow. Ha urged that the nationaj stock-taking should come from the l dominions, which, deal with, some problems that Great Britain hesitates to approach. New Zealand docs not respcct the old party shibboleths which Great Britain still worships. Germany's policy was based' upon dishonesty and fraud. Great Britain must train her people to organise their industries and knock out the bully. COMMONWEALTH OF NATIONS. IMPERIAL FEDERATION LONDON, August 5. (Received Aug. 6. at, 5.5 p.m.) The newspapers give prominent notices of the "Commonwealth of Nations" elaborate study of the Imperial federation problem. It is edited by Mr L. Curtis, who is touring Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and India. The book, which is published under tho auspii-os of tho Rotmd Table, sums up and studies tho opinions of groups of tho various dominions, and! supplements the Round Table's problem of the commonwealth, which is doing much to focus the Impei-ial opinion in Britain regarding post-war problems. JAPAN'S ATTITUDE. IN SYMPATHY WITH PARIS CONFERENCE. VANCOUVER, August 4. The Marquis Inow, Japanese Ambassador iix London, is passing through Canada. 1 fo says that at the close of tho war Japan, will certainly return Kiao Chau to China. The greater part of the munitions being used in the present Russian offensive were made in Japan, and' wero shipped through Vladivostock.
