MINING.

A return of 230z ldwt for 126 hours' work is reported from tho Red Jades dredge. The master of tho Electric No. 1 dredge wired as follows yesterday:—" Opening up ground. Getting deeper. Prospects moderate. No wash up." The gold returns to hand from tho various mines in the Auckland province for April amount to £53,883 3s 7d. To this auiount the Ohinemuri field contributed £50,366 46 4(l', tho Thames field £2002 19s 3d, and the Coromandel field £1514. Compared with the returns for tke corresponding period last year the present figures show a decrease of £17,484 3s 4d. This large amount is mainly due to tho fact that for April last year the rpturn from the Talisman Consolidated mine was valued at £21,224, while this year it was . only £4705.
