ALLEGED ATTEMPTED MURDER.

DEVOIN COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. (Peb United Pbess Associations WELLINGTON, May 3. Ernest Charles Devoift was committed for trial on a charge of attempting to murder hia fiancee, Louisa White, in the City Reserve on March 27. The medical evidence showed tfliat the woman waa still in hospital, and partially paralysed. The case was hopeless. Miss White's depositions stated that she had not quarrelled with Devoin, and she had no idea that he intended to harm her. She was shot in the back, and it waa entirely unexpected. They were to have been married the following Thursday. The police evidence indicated that thef man was already married.
