Drunkenness.—One first offender was convicted and discharged, and similar leniency was shown to an old-age pensioner, and to William Johns, who was deemed to bo sufficiently punished by having sprained his ankle in the police cell. Agnes Lamont was fined 20s, in default three days' imprisonment. Obscene Language.—Charles Rodgers pleaded guilty to a charge of being drunk, and with using obscene language.—For the first offence he was fined ss, or 12 hours' imprisonment, and for the second 20s, or seven days' imprisonment, the latter term to begin at the expiration of the former sentence. Chicl pleaded guilty to a charge of using obsccne language, and was fined 20s, or seven days' imprisonment. A Disorderly Character. —David Thompson, charged with disorderly behaviour while drunk, pleaded not guilty, but confessed his guilt as far as assault'ng William Wellman and damaging his trousers, valued at 20s, was foncerned.—The evidrnre showed that on Monday afternoon Mr Wellman, a fishmonger, carrying on business in Rattray street, sent his daughter a iwssage to tho landlord of tho Gladstone Hotel. Thompson tried to induce her to drink. Lcit- she ran back to her father's shop. Tho accused followed her. and, tak : ng up two pirccs of fish, threw them at Wellman. A struggle followed, in the course of which Wellman's trousers were damaged.—For disorderly conduct Thompson was fined 40s, or 14 days' imprisonment; and for the assault a like penalty was imposed, the sentences (o be cumulative. As the assault wns wanton and unprovoked, and was attended with injury to "Wellman's clothing, his Worship ordered half the fine to bo paid to him.
