PALMERSTON NOTES.
(Feom Our Own* Correspondent.) PALMERSTON, March 16. The Palmerston Bowling Club had a busy afternoon on Wednesday, when several matches in the Sealed Handicap Doubles and the final for the president's prize were played. Tho winning , pair—Messrs. G. B. iSmith and'W. T. Picket^—scored a. popular win. On several occasions Mr Smith has been in the final and semi-final rounds in competitions, but this is thS first win he has scored.
Feed ia . getting scarcer every day in this district, and numbers of sheep and cattle- have been entrained for more favoured places. The dairy farmers, especially, are finding this a hard season. On Wednesday week tho Motor Club had a most rnjoyablo run to tho- Gorge, which is an ideal spot for an outing of this sort. These runs should become more popular with motorists, as they promote ffoodfellowship among tho members of the club. A rough estimate of the revenue and expenditure, which has been prewired bv tho clerk, for tho year ending March 31 shows that tho borough finances are in a nruch better position than they wero at this tim" last year. • The now lifrht in Palmorston has not proved altogether a success, as, up to tho prrs"nt, the lights are not stoarlv. This was 'allurWl to at a Tneptiryr of tho committee on Tnrsdny, when tho account for the cost of installation was placed on tho table.
