KAITANGATA, March 16. (Before Mr H. A. Young, S.M.) Joshua Davies, iarmer, residing at Wangaloa Hill, 'pleaded "Guilty" to charges of drunkenness, using obscene language, and using threatening behaviour at an auction sale held in M'Kenzie's paddook,,, Eddystone street, Kaitangata, on February 29.—Oonstable Martin, who was not at the sale, conducted the prosecution.—lt appeared that the auctioneer (Mr Duthie), acting for the Farers' Co-operative Association (Balelutha), was obstructed so badly by the accused thai the sale had to be stopped, temporarily. The auctioneer cautioned Da/vies to no avail.—Mr Duthie said that the incident was the worst in his experience.—Daviee, in expressing his regret at what had happened, said he was muddled with drink at the time.—For drunkenness and threatening behaviour ho was ordered to pay costs (7s), on each charge, and for using , obscene language he was fined £2, with costs (14s 6d). Wm. Proctor was fined £5, with costs (7s), for failing •to register under the Defence Act. George Todd was fined £1 and costs (7s) for failing to render personal service under the Defenco Act, and Wilfred Roland and Ralph Jarvie were each ordered to pay 7s costs for a similar offence. J. Coulter was convicted and ordered to pay costs (9s) for selling an air-gun to a boy under the age of 16 years. Xho boy, who, it was stated, had discharged the gun at some men, and had struck ono on the head, was convicted and discharged for being in possession of the w.eapon, which was ordered to be forfeited. Jas. Young was ordered to pay 7s costs for allowing cattle to graze on Riverside road.—The police explained that tho charge was laid under tho Police Offences Act, as the local by-laws wore defifhct. . Alfred W. Bowman was fined 5s and costs (7s) • for cycling on a footpath in Clyde terrace. \ Two applications for old-age pensions were granted.
