CRICKET.
Notes by Long Slip. The grade competitions were resumed in Christchurcli on Saturday last. Some of the clubs had difficulty in providing full teams. Riccarton made 126 (M. O. Sinclair 60, H. B. Whitta 22. R. S. Taylor 20) and 61 for no wickets (E. R. Caygill not out 36), against We.st Cliristchurch's 103 (C. S. Hammond not out '38, D. Redpath 20).— Sydenham socred 226 (S. Hincksman 69, F. O'Malley 37, J. Gray 33, W. Patrick 28) against Linwood, who compiled 200 for three wickets (E. Perrin 76, F. Butler not out 39. C. Tait 38).—East Christchurcli batted all the afternoon against St Albans, scoring 318 (E. Willsteed 81, A. R. Blank 54, A. Norman not out 46, J. P. Flood 36, E. Baughoy 26, T. M'Clelland 26). The senior matches were resumed at Wellington on Saturday last, when.the fixtures that were interrupted by the holidays were concluded. The Trentham team, who had scored 201 in the first innings against the University's 115, closed their second innings with one wicket down for 199 (Naughton 109. Smith not out 86), and then disposed of tho University for 116, there being, however, four absentees from the latter's team.—Wellington North, 105 and 86 for three wickets (Wagstaff 38, Bray not out 22), secured a seven wickets' -win over Hutt (108 and 75), Hiddleston and Southall bowling effectively for the North.—Central defeated Old Boys bv 52 runs on the first innirigs, in which they scored 211 to thejr opponents' 159 (Lambert not out 50), and in their second innings made 294- for seven wickets (Sehlaadt 53, Robinson 43, Lowe not out 41, Burton 32, Hickson 30. Dind 29). —East defeated Petono on tho first innings by 233 runs to 194 (Brice not- out 57), and in their second innings scored 268 for five wickets (Baker not out 108, M'Girr 46, Collett not out 39, Gibbes 31). Playing at Napier on Saturday last for the United against the High School in tho championship scrirs of matches, Bishop scored 103 out of a total of 171 compiled by his side. In a junior match at Wellington, which was resumed on Saturday last from the Saturdav preceding tho holidays, Marist Brothers' Old Boys scored 516 for five wickets (innings closed) aerainst North. To this great total M'Math contributed 207 and M'Mahon 150. G. G. Napier, who died recently of wounds I in France, was in the Cambridge University Eleven for four years, and also assisted Middlesex. He was 1 a bowler of great ability.
