TROTTING ASSOCIATION
MEETING OF THE BOARD. (Peb United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, January 11. A meeting oi the board of the New Zealand Trotting Association -was held to-day; present—Messrs P. Selig (president), W. H. Denton, W. G. Garrard, C. F. Mark, H. J. Palmer, H. W. Kitchingham, T. T. Ritchie, and H. F. N.coll. Notice was received from the New Zealand Trotting Conference of the adjourned meeting of the conference to bo held on January 19 to oonsider the . report of the executive regarding stipendiary stewards. 'Tho president said that by virtue of his office he would be attending the conference, and he intended to support the scheme, which seemed a satisfactory one m general principles, though tho details might require thrashing out.—Tt was decided that the president should be instructed to support the scheme for the appointment of stipendiary stewards. A letter was read from tho West Australian Trotting Association suggesting that it would bo advisable if the various governing bodies were to pass a rule which, would prevent the registration of horses which didnot bear a brand of some. sort. The letter pointed out that horses with "clean skins" offered opportunities 'for wrongdoing, and went on to say that it was believed that there was a regular traffic in such horses in Australia.—lt vyas decided to refer the question to a special committee. An application was received from Mr \V. J. Morland for the issue of a certificate for tho mile record of 2min 7 l-ssec established by Country Belle at the Metropolitan Trotting Club's track. —The president's action in appointing officials for the trial was approved and it was decided that tho certificate be issued. The president said that until he had an interview with the president of the Auckland Trotting Club that body's views in regard to the "boycott case" had never bee i put fully before the board; but both Mr Gladding and Mr Gicsen had written to tho board so fully on so many occasions that he did not think there could be anything more for them to say. At a previous meeting of the board it had been decided i that unless Mr C. F Giesen could arrange with tho Auckland Trotting Club to remove the embargo placed on him the association would proceed to cancel his licenses. No information had been received from either the Auckland Trotting Club or from Mr Giesen, and the resolution passed by the board would automatically take effect.—Mr Ritchie said that ho was strongly opposed to tho motion. Tho association should not have granted a lieenso to one man when it had refused to issuo one to another concorned in tho trouble, but now. to even things up, it was proposed to withdraw the licenses issued to Mr Giesen.—The president then formally moved, and Mr Nicoll secondod, that tho resolution of the board in reference to the cancellation of Mr C. F. Gieson's lioonses be given effect to. The president said he considered that tho association had acted weakly in the matter, and should not havo granted a license to either of the men concerned. When a body of men set themselves up deliberately to endeavour to wreck a club's meeting they deserved to be punished.—The motion was carried, Mr Ritchie dissenting.
