MAORI HILL BOROUGH COUNCIL

A special meeting of the Maori Hill Borough Council was held last evening, tnere being present the Mayor (Mr E. «. Ciarke) and Crs Clark, M'Millan. Armstrong, Booth, Hastie., Harbour, Finnerty, and Graham. The principal business of the meeting was to elect three members of the council to act as its representatives on the City Counqil when amalgamation takes place. The whole of the members present and the Mayor were nominated for election, but Crs Armstrong, Booth, Finnerty, and Graham declined to stand, the last-named remarking humorously that nomination was probably the nearest he would ever get to the attainment of such an honour. , The result of the poll was the election of Ore Hastie, M'Millan, -and Harbour, the voting being as follows:—Cγ Hastie 9,, Cr M'Millan 5, Cr Harbour 5, the Mayor V and Cr Clark 4. Each of the councillors elected returned thanks for the position in which he was placed, and promised to do his best for the borough and the city generally. The Mayor suggested that in order to keep the works of the borough going until March next these works should be decided upon and money allocated for them. The councillors for each ward could ascertain what were the most urgent needs.—Cr Clark supported the view, and suggested that a proper schedule of retirements should be arranged so as to bring matters as much into line as possible with the method adopted in the city.—Cr Armstrong said he thought the_ main roads would receive sufficient attention, but the smaller works should be considered with a view to seeing that these were not neglected.—lt was eventually decided on the motion of Cr> Clark, seconded by Cr Armstrong—" That the town clerk be instructed, after consulting with the Mayor and the councillors for each ward, to submit a schedule of necessary works, with estimates of cost, which the council should aim at carrying out before March 31, 1916. In the case of South Ward a report should be submitted on every street where the loan allocation appears to be insufficient."
