CITY POLICE COURT

(Before Mr H. Y. Widdowson, S.M.) Drunkenness.—Three first offenders were charged with this offence. One was fined 10s or 24 hours, another 7s or 24 hours, and a third 5s or 24 hours. ,

A Remand Case.—A seventeen-year-old lad, who had been remanded the previous day to allow inquiries to be made regarding his character, etc., was charged with stealing a bicycle lamp, valued at 10s, the property of James Mellor.—The Sub-inspector said that tlie boy appeared to be a little bit weak in his intellect.—The Rev. Mr Axelsen said that the lad could be quite easily managed, but he required special treatment and supervision.—His Worship convicted him and ordered him to come up for eentence when called upon, the lad to be placed under Mr Axelsen's care in the meantime.

False Representation,—Jack Lyons was charged with obtaining a motor cycle, valued at £35, the property of William James Cameron, by falsely representing that he had between £40 and £50 in the Post Office Savings Bank.—Accused was remanded to appear to-day. By-law Charges.—Jack Lyons was further charged with driving a motor cycle at a speed exceeding four miles per hour while passing a stationary tramcar. Ho was also charged with failing to give notico of the exchange of ownership of a motor cycle to the registering authority.—He was fined 40s and costs on the first charge and 20s and costs on the second.
