ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

(Pek UurrxD Pbbss Amooiatiom.) PASIATUA, February 22. A baokblocks settler named Grubner, at Maku, near Pongaroa, has had a very painful experience. He owns a bush section on the Puketoi ranges, and as he was returning home alone one evening after bushfelling, carrying an axe in his hand, he tripped and fell on the axe. He sustained an ugly gash right across the face, and suffered considerably, the wound bleeding copiously. Grubner walked two miles over rough country, and then rode three miles to the nearest farmhouse, where he fainted. He was subsequently conveyed to a private hospital, suffering severely from loss of blood and on the verge of collapse. GISBORNE, February 22. At en early hour last Thursday morning a middle-aged man named Thos. Wallace was found dead with hJs throat cut in the house of Samuel English, a labourer living in Delatour road, Kaiti. At the inquest it was stated that the deceased had l been drinking, bnt after an exhaustive inquiry tho coroner was unable to find evidence to show how the deceased came by tho wound iu his throat, and returned an open verdict. On Sunday morning Mr English, on visiting the scene of the tragedy, found a calendar for 1915 lying on tho grass outside the ba/ck door. On the back of it was an unsigned message in pencil, supposed to hayo been written by the deceased, and pointing, it is thought, to intentions of suicide. Counsel for Mr English has now approached the Minister of Internal Affairs, requesting permission to have this and other evidence heard and the inquest reopened. GREYMOTJTH, February 22.

Peter Joseph Lanini, a sawmill hand, aged 20, was drowned in the Paroa lagoon whilo bathing after work on Saturday. A verdict of "Accidental death" was return?d. HAMILTON, February 22.

Frank Horton, aged 69 years, a widower, was found dead in his room at a, boardinghouse this evening. He had complained earlier in. the .lay of feeling unwell, and it is supposed viiat death was due to heart failure. The deceased was a gardener.
