The coal won last week was as follows: North Brunner, 765 tons 18cwt; Paparoa, 1507 tons 12cwt; Point Elizabeth, 765 tons scwt; Liverpool, 512 tons; Blackball, 4294 tons lcwt. Total, 7843 tons 9cwt. CHRISTCHURCH, September 28. It has been decided to hold the Christchurch to Timaru cycle race on October 24. A veterinary surgeon named John Hill Hawkes, 40 years of age, single, attempted to commit suicide on Saturday by cutting his throat. He is now in the hospital and is progressing favourably. GORE, September 28. Saturday was set apart by the Horticultural Society as Flower Day at Gore. The weather was bad, but £93 5s 2d was collected in aid of the Belgian Relief Fund.
