(Fkom Our Own Correspondent.) GKEYMOUTII, September 25. Mr M'firegor, contractor for the erection of the machinery on the Five-mile .Beach dredge, near Okarito, has arrived at Greymoiith from Dimedin to make arrangements wit.li Mr W. Wylic, the dredge.: master, for taking tho pontoons and machinery down to the grounds. The pontoons, which, are at present moored in the lagoon near Blakelown, will bo towed down by the Government steamer I-line-moii during the second week in October if tho weather is favourable. The local batiks which recently reduced the price of gold by Is per ounce have raised the price by' 6d, so that it now stands at 6d less than was recently the price given.
The inability to work the Okarito bar (South Wefitland) is having a serious effect on the settlers in that vicinity, and large quantities of stores, grass seed, and seed potatoes are being sent down by drays, so that the present good weather shall not be lost. The carters on the South road are having quite a busy time at present.
