Mr Walter Macfariane, of Kaiwara, a ' well-known pastoralist, died on the Bth (a Press Association message t from Christchurch 6tates). Mr Macfariane managed! various estates for his father before acquiring Kaiwara in 1881. He was an original n.ember of the Cheviot County Council, one of the found-era of the Canterbury Sheep-owners Union {president in 1911), a member of the executive of the A. and P. Association, and chairman of the Management Committee of the Canterbury Domestic Syndicate.
