DECEASED PERSONS' ESTATES

WELLINGTON, April 3. During the month of March 228 deceased persons' estates were finally certified for stamp duty. The largest was that of Richard O. Rendy (Auckland), £28,319, Tho principal estates in the Dunedin list arc:—Archibald Carrick, £4749; Peter Lunan, £2899;. Samuel Prout, £2210; Charles Ellis, £15*86; Elizabeth W. Dowling, £1289; Archibald M'Gill. £1365; Margaret Bernech, £1204: William Mac Donald, £1070. In the Southland district tho principal estate is that of William Milne Shand, £9730.

On Tuesday, March 24 (says the Taranaki Herald) a Maori war veteran, named John French, died at the Old Men's Home. He was 71 years of age. In tho war time ho was a member of Major Atkinson's Bushrangers, and 50 years ago was at the taking of Kaitaki, in Captain Good's company. Captain Black secured the war medal and pension for Mr French only two months ago.
