The secretary of the Waikaia Companyreports a return of Boz 7dwt for 137 hours' work.

. The Rise and Shine No. 1 dredge worked under tho usual conditions last week. Tho ground in tho eastern half of the cut showed some improvement, but there was no change for tho better in tho other half, although the coal bottom was decreasing somewhat.

The Rise and Shine No. 2 dredge made 15ft ahead' last week, and got a soft sandy bottom, carrying good prospects, in the west coiner of the cut. There was coal and hard clav over the remainder of tho bottom.

Tho work of sinking the main shaft in the Waiotahi mine has been continued during the past week, and it has now been decided' to let tho balance of tho work on contract This work consists of connecting with tho top of the rise from the IOOOIt level, a distance of 176 ft.

The master of the Red Jack's dredge, reporting for tho week ended February 14, 6tated that work was continued on tho sameline of faco as during tho previous week. Tho south-west side of tho cut continued loose and drifty. Tho wash on the northeast side became solid, and carried very fair gold, some of it being of a coarse nature. Dredging was somewhat retarded owinjr to buried timber.

Driving oast and west on tho Cardigan lode at No. 7 level in the Saxon mine is in progress, and very encouraging prospects are being met with. Tho lode is about 15in in thickness in both drives, and is carrying a quantity of good mineral and blende, such as is generally found in the vicinity of gold in this locality. There is a reasonable prospect of the lode improving in quality as the work progresses.
