ALLEGED SLY GROG-SELLING

LAWRENCE, December 2.

At the Magistrate's Court, Lawrence, to-day Maunsel Blackmore, o£ • Waipori, labourer, was charged with keeping liquor for sale in a no-license district at Waipori. Sergeant Higgins appeared for the police and Mr Hay (Dunedin) for the

defence,

The evidence for the police showed that a raid had been made on the defendant's premises at Waipori on October 24, at 10.55 p.m., when defendant was found behind a bar furnished with soft drinks, and some persons were in the bat; also, that in other rooms in the premises 2{ gallons of beer were found in a keg, two bottles of whisky, and certain empty whisky cases,,bottles, and a demijohn. Sergeant Higgins called the clerk of the court to produce statements filed with him as to liquor sent to defendant by William Cro£6an, of Dunedin,-hotelkeeper.

Mr Hay objected, and the Magistrate upheld the objection, stating that the person sending the liquor should be called. The case was thereupon dismissed withut prejudice.
