(Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, October -2. Alexander Carlaw and James Joseph Drinuan were charged to-day at the Police Court with cargo pillaging. They were alleged to have stolen three jars of jam. The former pleaded guilty and the latter not guilty. Each was sentenced to seven days' hard labour.
WELLINGTON, October 2. Arthur Potter, aged 29 years, a married labourer, was admitted to the hospital yesterday suffering from the effects of poisoning, According to the police report two letters, which were close by a washhouse in which Potter was discovered, indicated that he had contemplated committing suicide. He had been living apart from his wife, and had been out of work for some time. His condition- is not considered to be dangerous.
INVERCARGILL, October 2. Three young men who were found "kegging" in a stable at midnight on Wednesday were brought before the court to-day. In regard to one named William Kirwan the Magistrate said he was a problem, and had spent enough money in fines to have built a small house. He was sentenced to two years' reformative treatment. Another man named John Joseph ITinnerty, who pleaded that he had been before the court only twice in the last six years, was sentenced to ono.year's reformative treatment. David Simpson was convicted and discharged.
