LIBRARY NOTES.

An important .work, from the point of view of thoso who hold that there is no essential conflict between, religion and science, has just been introduced into the Dunedin. Athenasum Library. It is entitled "The Spiritual Interpretation of •Nature," tho author being Dr James Y. Simpson, Professor of Natural Science, in New College, Edinburgh. In a recent review of this work The Spectator says:—" Professor Simpson writes with a wido knowledge and profound cotiviction, and he has a very pleasant style. It is plain that he loved the writing of this book. Ho delighted to see with his own eyes, and to set before the eyes of all men evidences and instances of the spirit creating and ruling the affairs of Nature. ... It will seem to many of ua that Professor Simpson .... is trying to prove too much. . . . But this fault may ivell be excused, for here is n careful, honest, lovcable book, which will have an excellent welcome."
