DUNEDIN JOCKEY CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING.

The annual meeting of members of the Duncdm Jockey Club ,waa neld last nigh. There was a good attendance of members, and the president (Sir Georgo M'liean) occupied Uio chair.

In moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, Sir George M'Lcan expressed appreciation at tho largo attendance. He said they had done a good deal for thoir patrons during the past year. .They had erected a. members' 6tand, and ho was glad to sdo that the membership had increased. They had effected improvements in the outsid enclosure, and they intended to add others during the coming year. The new members' stand had cost £2013, and the sanitary arrangements for the outside public £577, and yet they wound up the year with, n credit of over £300 and a liability of £90 to thoir contractors. The gross profit for tho year was £5465—fee best the club had ever had. The attendance ait the whole of the meetings liatl increased by nearly 5000. The stakes had bpen enlarged by £790, and the investments on the totalisntor. were £33,163 more than those for the previous year. They had instituted a new race to be known as the Guineas, which would be decided at tho October meeting. This would give horse-owners a chance of trying their Derby and New Zealand Cup horses before competing at Oiristclmroh. In the last 10 years they had exactly doubled their stakes. In 1903 they gave £5640, and in 1913. £11,290, and they would have to do something more in that way this year. He thought they required to put up the money for the Duncdin Cup to £1000, and to add to another race. This propyl had yet to ro before the committee. He concluded by thanking She officials for tho excellent work they had done during the year.

Mr Bullock, in seconding the motion, pointed to tho remarkablo success of the Steeplechase meeting. He had heard many comparisons made between their steeplechase course and others, all in favour of the Wingatui course. The next proposal was to provide a good up-to-date stand for the outside public, and to increase the Dunedin Cup states tc £1000. This latter proposal he thought n-ouhl restore the race to something liks its old prestige and ■ as one of tho principal classic events in tho dominion. The motion was i»rried unanimously.
