VACCINATION STATISTICS.
TO THE r.DITOB. Sin,—"Edina" in your iesue of to-day says: "When Edinburgh was hist visited with smallpox an attendant at, the Smallpox Hospital died, and -it was found that tho deceased wnfl tho only attendant who had been allowed to start his duties without having been first vaccinated, making out that 100 per cent, of the tinvaccinated died." Will "Edina" please answer the following questions: (1) After the attendant contracted small-pox, was he vaccinated 'or not? (2) Was it found by holding a post-mortem that tho dead man had not been vaccinated —that is, that: vaccination marks could not be seen? (3) Is it possible for a smallpox patient to die with the eruption so heavy upon him that the marks of vaccination could not bo seen; and in such a case what evidenco would bo required to prove that lie had r.ot been vaccinated? (4) If only about 14 per cent, of the smallpox patients died before vaccination was invented, and, say, 60 per cent, of tho unvaccinated din to-day who is killing the other 36 per cent.? (5) Were tho attendants in tho Edinburgh Smallpox Hospital allowed a limited or unlimited quantity of whisky or brandy daily, and if they drnnlt the spirits will "Edina" say how much of the immunity phenomena was duo to the spirits and how much was duo to vaccination?—l nm, etc. July 21.
