YOUNG MEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION.
During the past fortnight the Junior department of the Young Men's Christian Association has had a busy time,with a membership campaign. Two teams have been hard at work, and amongst their .associates they havo secured 25 new members. Matters of interest were provided each evening in tho form of competitions, bright addresses, and games; and tho rooms presented a bright and lively appearance. The campaign closed on Friday with a well-attended social, at which the new members were welcomed. Mr R. Crawford presided and, after congratulating the teams on their ' excellent tfork, spoke of the splendid opportunity they had for development in the new Y.M.C.A. buildings. Tho ' Boys' Work Secretary also commended tho the boys on their campaign work, and urged them to band close together in their effovte to develop themselves, and in the uplift of the boys of the city. On behalf of th.* secretary, tho Chairman presented |,o Master Wilfred Satterthwalte a gold mcdiil in recognition of his splendid work in securing' eight new members. The General Secretary (Mr Hughes) in a stirring address spoke of tho ideals of a Y.M.C.A. boy, and the standard of manhood for which lie should unceasingly aim. He pointed out what they owed to the more unfortunate boys around them, and the good they might ,'• effect by example. Mr Barmco3t, Mr A. Spears, and the Boys' Work Secretary (Sjir Jas. H. Battersby),, contributed mussqil items, and when the new membes had beejn welcomed, the evening dosed wifli supper-./•
