DEPUTATION TO MR MASSEY.

WELLINGTON, .July 19. A deputation of representatives of the country racing olubs -waited on Mr Massey today and urged that tho paramtß taken away from the country ctebs as a result of the Racing Commission should be restored. Mr Mascy replied that tbore was no reason why members not be given art opportunity of voting this session on one of the private members' Bill to be brought before the House with the object of amending the Gaming Atst. •■- ■ • Replying to a further request that 2 S per cent, taxation should be levied only on the profite made by clubs instead of on their gross receipts, Mr Massey said lie did not think there was any chance of any amending- legislation—at any rate not this session. At the conforenco of representatives of the country racing clubs, held last night, and at which the decision to approach Parliament on tho above matters was arrived at, proceedings at the outset grew somewhat, heated, and five delegates left the room. , The Gaming Act Amendment Bill, the object of which is to obtain a restoration of permits to those country clubs that have lost them, was approved.
