Offerings from the country are few, and do not cover any largo quantities. As a consoqeuence business continues on a limited scale. One departure from the general rule of comparatively small transactions is reported, being tho salo of 1000 sacks of velvet at 4s at a country station, the price to grower being reducible by commission. Small lines of velvet have been sold at country stations at 3s lid net, and ;• linof 350 sacks was taken ex store at 4s Id reducible to grower by brokerage. A small line of red chaff was sold at 3s 7<l' net at a country station, while solid straw Tuscan has changed :hands at country editions at 3s _4£d, 3s sd, and 3s s£d net, tho top price being for a particularly good 6ample. Very few oats have been offered', and sales have been confined to lots of from 100 to 300 sacks each. Tho prices, net to grower, paid at country stations have been as follows:—A frrade Gartons, 2s IJid and 2s 2d; R grade Gartons, 2s Id; Algerians 2s; black Tartars, 2s. ' Only a modest amount of business has been passing in potatoes, sellers still refusing to recognise current quotations as repreacntinrr trim values, wtiilo merchants show disinclination to indulge in speculative purchases. What business has been done ha 6 been on a loiver basis of values sales having been made at country stations at £3. down to £2 15s net, sacks"in. Business in. tho stod; market is still slow. There is a good inquiry for ewes and liog. gets, but these are not readily procurable. During the week a lino of 530 two-tooth ewes was placed privately at 22s 6d. Fullmouthed ewes have been sold at 18s 6d; sound and tfailing-moathcd' ewC6 at 15s; and failing-mouthed ewes at 9s and 11;, according to condition. Small lines of ewe hoggets have changed owners at from 16s 3d to 17s. There has been practically nothing doing in cattle. There are plenty of buyers of store cattle, especially bullocks and steers in forward condition, but there aro none of any age or description coming forward. Tho district has, in fact, been for tho time being pretty well cleared out of surplus sfore cattle.
Dairy cows continue good Felling property, with few offering at this week's s:ile. A line of 17 realised an average of £7 9j. Quotations are tho same ne last week.
