Cargoes of arms and ammunition consigned to Australia have been placed aboard 12 foreign vessels at Philadelphia at the instance of the Wilmington. Powder .Company, of Delaware. Shipping circles believe that the cargoes .are not intended for Australia, but for the United States Pacific Coast defences, NOT FOR AUSTRALIA. MELBOURNE, May 14. (Received May 14, at 10.45 jyn.) Inquiries made at the Defence Department's offico 6how that the ammunition is certainly not for Australia. Any such articles not manufactured locally would be obtained in England.
