The fire on the Turakina has reached the insulators and the butter. The burning hold is being flooded and the passengers are landing. The Turakina Las been beached. The fire is burning fiercely, and great anxiety is felt for the safety of the ship. HOPE FOR LARGE*SALVAGE. LONDON, March 6. (Received March 7, at 0.10 a.m.) The underwriting interests in connection with the Turakina amount to over £500,000. Most of the vacancies in the first and second class were filled at Montevideo. The rates of reinsurance fluctuated in the vicinity of 50 per cent. It is hoped that at the "worst there will be a large amount of salvage.

THE AUCKLAND CARGO. (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Martih 6. / The Turakina's cargo includes 21,737 boxes of butter and 400 crates of cheese from Auckland. The estimated value, f.0.b., at Auckland, is ( about £60,000. LYTTELTON CARGO. BUTTER DESTROYED. (Pee United •Press association.) CHRISTCHURCH, March 6. The Turakina took the following cargo from Lyttelton:—6o7o bales wool, 551 caEOs oheesc, 3538 boxes butter, 19 sacks hides, 4 casks pelts, 93 bales sheepskins, 52 packages sundries. The New, Zealand Shipping Company has been informed that the lire is in No. 3 hold, This has two decks, one with a space of 69,030 cubic feet and tho other with 35,500 cubic feet. Messages received by the company state that the hold which contained tho butter ■has been destroyed, that tho vessel lias been beached, and that all the passengers aro ashore. It is supposed that the referenco in tho Press Association message to tho fire reaching the insulators deals with the refrigerating room, which lies partly on top of the hold in which the fire broke out. Tho Tttrakina was built in 1902 by Messrs Leslie and Co., at Hebburn, in the North of England. Captain V. C. White-Parsons is in charge of the vessel. Tho Turakina is registered A 1 at Lloyds, nnd is equipped with insulaited holds, Clayton's fire extinguisher, and wireless telegraphy. She is 473 ft in length, 59ft wide, and her hold depth ; s 31ft. Her registered tonnage was The cargo, which was a valuable one; was chiefly composed of butter and cheese. The Union Insurance Society of Canton carried a risk of £70,000 on 13,000 boies of butter and 4000 crates of cheese.
