CITY COUNCIL REPORTS.
The following are the principal clauses in the reports to be submitted by tho various committers to the meeting of tho City Council on Wednesday:— i The Public Work Committee reports that tho citj engineer has been instructed aa follows: —(a) With his Worship tho Mayor and tho chnirman, to act, if necessary, in restoring the collapsed uvJ.l supporting tho footway on the frontage of Mr Thyberg's 'premises at No 4 llouverio street; the coat of n-itoring tho witll will be about £12. (b) Construot a wall along tho line of tho roadway in Lcekhampton Court fronting Mr ■I. I'lHis's premises, to prevent further Blipping of the embankment, at an estimated <XHt of £15. (c) Reoord request from tho Hi;,'lt School' Hoard of Governors for tho construction nf a rowing across l)owling st,rfet, at the top of View street, for eonadoration with tho allooations for next year. Tho Library Committee, in compliance with instructions from the council to select and submit three out of tho 13 applications received for tho position of probationer ot the 'ibrury, submits the following names for tho council's consideration:—Miss Susio fl. Clothier, .Mips Yiolot Morrison, and Miss Alice Norris The names arc not in order

The Reserves Committee reports that mhority Ilqh been granted the superintendent of rosciTto to supply groens, etc., for decorating the' cntranco to and portion of the interior of lirydonc Hull in connection with the forthcoming Industrial Exhibition, tho actual work of decorating to be dents by the department's own employees at tho oxpnnto of tho Exhibition Committee. The Tramways CommitJco reports having authorised the tramway manager to arrange for the electric lights at tramway stopping-places to be disconnected from tho tran.way power circuit, and connected up to the ordinary street lighting circuit. Tho lighting from the power circuit has not been satisfactory, and the change is also needed to better meet the requirements of the board o' control. Tho light will still be paid for by tho tramways department when the alteration is made. I'lte town clerk has been authorised to act in the matter of arranging for the ÜBC by tho Otago A. and P. Society of tho Dun-cdin-Oeean Beach railway in connection with the forthcoming Summer Show. ' The Finance Committee reports having passed the following accounts for payment: Af.uiucinal (No. 1 aocount), £4342 l' s lid; while the following have been passed pending ratification by departmental committees:—Municipal (No. 1 account), £970 12s 9d; water (No. 2 account), £423 Is 7d; water (loan account), £6 6s; gas (No. 3 account), itJoio s Sj' 'p lm y n J'3 (No. 4 account), 4s 7d; electric power and lighting (No. 5 account), £961 13s lid; municipal, Roslvn (No 6 account), £345 lis 10d; RosIvn drainage rate trust account, £163 6a 7d; abattoir loan account, £115 7s 3d. In respect of the following previous authorisation by departmental committees has been approved:—Municipal (No. 1 account), £613 5s d; water (No. 2 account), £61 9s 8d; water (loan account), 12s 6d; jas (No. 3 account!, £2221 15s sd; tramways (No. 4 account), £1082 10s 2d; electric power and lighting (No. 5 account), £2612 9s 2d; abattoir loan account, £101 Is 11<1;—total accounts dealt with, £16,203 8s 2d.
