Now Board of Trade regulations, which will operate from January 1, specify that foreign-going passenger and cargo vessels must provide sullloicnl lifeboat accommodation for all aboard. Tho number of boats and davits will depend on tho length of tho vessel instwfd of on tlie tonnage, and tho existing collnpsibles must be replaced by lifeboats. The role decreasing tho number of boats where efficient watertight compartments .uc provided is nbro. gated, while steps have been taken to securo efficient boat hands.
