FIRES.
(Pip. Ukitxd Pdebs Association.) (JAMBIUDGE, November 13. The Masonic Hotelj Uic oldest hostelry in the district, was totally destroyed by fire at 4 o'clock this morning. Air King, tlw licensee, and the members of his iamilyf, as well as all the inmates on the upper floor, got out by means of tho firo escape, the females being in their night attire. Mr King, whose furniturewas uninsured, estimates his loot at from £1200 to £1500. Tho owner of the hotel is Mr Victor Cornaga, of Auckland. The Ices above the insurance is considerable. Tho building, which contained 24 rooms, was insured for £1000 in the New Zealand and Commercial Union Company's and tho stock and furniture for £700 in the United ollioe. Other occupants wero considerable losers, being, glad to eecapo with their lives.
WANGANUI, November 13. A cevcn-roonicd homo, on Putiki Hill, owned and occupied by Mr and Mm Thomas lx>w, was destroyed by firo last cvoning._ 11k> occupants were sitting in tho dining room, when something was heard to fall in tho pfiMiag<>. On opening the door Mr Low found the pansage a mase of fl.inws, and lie and his wifo had to escape through the dining room window. Mr Low had hi« hands burnt, 'and was cut about the head. The house wae insured for £150 in (lie South British office which also held a risk of £250 on tho furniture.
