CANTERBURY v. OTAGO.
Tho intorprcvincisl tennis match between Canterbury and Otago, winch commenced on SalurAiy morning at tho Anderson's Iky Courts, but which.had to bo rvlinepshcd diortly after' tho Combined Doubles were started owing to heavy ( rain, wos continued on the Ota?o Club's Courts yesterday morning, whei five matches were played. Of theso four wore won by the visitors, the only win registered by tho local representative? being the match between l'earse ond Mim Cotlon (Cantarburyl end Hauchop and Miss Bnueliop (Otago)Chief interest centred in tho mooting of Olliyier and M!?s Miles (Canterbury) and Whito and Miss Campbell (Otagoi, and some very fimj play vn witnessed. The first two seia wero not closo'y contested, each fide winning in turn fairly easily. Some good piny, however, was shown. Both sides improved in form in tho final, when, after making tho games 4 all and 15—40 in the next game, Otago lest the opportunity of petting Iho load. They, however, rmia'.iscd matters by making a lono game of tho next. Ollivier mado somo splendid sm&shes in tho final game, and secured the fot and match for Canterbury, 6—5. Mta Miles played with moro confidence than the did on Saturday, getting in some good forehand strokes, nnd assisted her partner very materially. White was in good form, but tho Canterbury man proved too strong for him, while Mifi> Campbell got in eomo np'.cndid driven and often scored _ by superior placing, frffpiently beating Ollivier bv long drives. Another good pamc waj Hint between Gosi and Mi«e Hay and Brown and Mi*e Marks, tho issu.o being in doubt until tho last stroke of tho match. The score wnj set all, and Otago had tho lead in tho third set, the (core being 5-3 and 40-15, thus requiring 1 point to Fecuro the match. A final effort was made by the visitors, and thev succeeded in preventing Olago from gaining wwt previously appeared almost a certain win. Bauohop and Miss Baiichon nlaved well (the former playing in plnco of Hamilton), and their victory over Tcarsc and Mhe Cotton was full o'f merit. The other matehte proved rather easy wins for the Canterbury playors. In all tho visitors won 20 matches to Ota?o's seven.
