(Fboii Our Own Cohrespontient.) WELLINGTON, May 12. Miss Grace Palotta left Wellington by the Warrimoo this evening. She is en route to Vienna, where her mother is seriously ill. By rapid overland travelling from Sydney 6he will just manage to catch the Osterley at Adelaide. Mr Low, of the New Comedy Company, left for Sydney by the Warrimoo, and Mr Hugh Ward, who is joining tho Williamson firm, is expected to'leavo Wellington for Sydney by next week's boat. Mr Justice Williams ami Mrs Williams are proceeding south by to-night's ferry steamer. Aire W. N. Blair, widow of Mr W. N. Blair, formerly Engineer-in-Chief for New Zealand, left here to-day on her return to London, where her daughter has recently taken her medical degree. The Hon. Thos. Mackenzie (Minister of Agriculture) lias been confined to his room suffering from congestion, due to a chill. In the meantime his immediate arrangements have been cancelled. Pyle, a wing three-quarter of the Oriental senior Rugby team, has received notice of his transfer from tho Bank of New South Wales, Wellington, to the branch at Amberley, Canterbury. In reference to the railway extensions now in progress, Mr Buchanan, M.P., stated at GTeytown that the Government spent thousands of pounds by way of extensions on railways returning a minus result or it paltry few shillings per cent, on capital expenditure, but in tlic case of the Wairarapa line, which ltsd always paid, and still paid handsomely, tiie public was badly treated for train services, The Rimutaka deviation was refused, though it would pay for itself in a few years.
