The Roman Catholic Bishops of Salford and Nottingham'and Father Bernard Vaughan applaud Mr Taft and Sir E. Grey's proposals. Cardinal Logue (Ireland), while desiring universal peace, says ho has no confidence in the movement, while millions of pounds are screwed out of the poor to build Dreadnoughts. He is not hopeful that Mr Taft and Sir E. Grey will conclude a treaty before better relations with Germany aro established and before the Irish question is settled.

A motion in the Diet condemning the Government's policy of British and American treaties was negatived by large majorities.
MOVEMENT IN AUSTRIA.
NEGOTIATIONS WITH ITALY SUGGESTED. VIENNA, March 21. An agitation has started in Parliament urging the Government to delay the con. struction of the proposed 'warships and to negotiate with Italy for an arbitration treaty.
