HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

The forlnightly meeting of the Otago Hospital and Charitable Aid Board l , held last night, was attended by Messrs Walker (chairman), Taibojs, Myers, Hamel, Blackie, Wilkinson, Knight, Loudon, and Ewing. Apologies for absenco were received from Messrs Larnaoh, Clark, and Templeton. The Controller and Auditor-general wrote returning tho balance sheet of the united districts of Ofcago, Tuapeka, and Otago Charitable Aid Board. Ho also returned the balance sheet of the Ota.go District Hospital Board. •

The Wanganui Hospital and Charitable Aid Board wrote' expressing disapproval of tho disqualification, clause in " Tho Hospitals and Charitable Institutions Act, 1909."

Tho reports of tho Hospital, Benevolent, and Sanatorium Committees were adopted. In moving the adoption of tho Finance Committee's report, the Chairman, said the ■balance sheet for tho six months was entirely satisfactory. The committee would probably have something to say about it at tho next meeting.

Mr Lou<lon, chairman of tho Hospital Committee, said that in the nea,r future some considerable alterations would require to be made at the Hospital, involving tJio expenditure of a good deal of money. As they all knew, for some time past tho Hospital had been overcrowded at times, and there was one part o£ it which must bo attended to—he referred to the ward for mental cases. It had been a blot on the institution for a good while,, and to provide for it and for other room in the Hospital to mako the institution more efficient, and to provide better accommodation, it seemed to be almost necessary to build a new ward or a new pavilion. He would not go into details, as he had not had time to look into the report on the matter by tho Inspector-general. Tho Chairman eaid , copies of the report would be supplied to members before next meeting, and probably the Hospital and Finance Committees would have something to say about it at the same time. • ,< The secretary and treasurer (Mr J. Jacobs) laid on the table a statement of receipts and expenditure and the balance sheet of the board for the period of six months ended JCth September, 1910.
