WELLINGTON, January 26. Tho Athenic brought 611 passengers, including £0 Sedgwick boys. At one stage of the journey there were 916 passengers on boaid. Of tho New Zealand passengers 15S are booked for Wellington, 175 to Auckland; 93 to Lyttelton, 32 to Dunedin, 24 to Bluff, 21 to New Plymouth, and 20 to Timairu. The assisted passengers number 117. Forty-nine domestics, H4 farm labourers, and eight farmers came by the vessel, as also did 20 wives who ar rejoining their husbands. prospects of placing all the immigrants in suitable employment we bright, according to ■ the Labour Department. There are plenty of vacancies on the fi'ooks of the department, and no one strong and willing enough need be out of work. Competent navvies are being advertised for at lis a day, with several months' work guaranteed. In regard to farm labour, the demand greatly exceeds the supply. Many situations on farms have been lilled by arrivals by the Athenic, some of them having been satisfactorily placed before landing.
