(Received August 19, at 1.15 a.m.) In the Federal Senate, Mr Pearce moved the second reading of the Defence Bill. His speech largely covered the details already cabled. He estimated that tlie ultimate, cost would be £2,000,000, as against Lord Kitchener's estimate ot £1,800,000.
